Comments: The traditional emphasis has been on thorough clinical training with an extremely diverse population of difficult cases (full range of cardiothoracic procedures from premature neonates to adults). A particular strength is in intraoperative TEE training. Fellows have a 100% pass rate on the perioperative TEE exam. For those interested in a research experience, we have created a 2-year joint fellowship in CT Anesthesiology and Clinical Pharmacology. The clinical year will be in full compliance with ACGME requirements for training in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology including advanced training in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography. The research year will be mentored by faculty of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, the largest and one of the most successful in the US. Areas of expertise and potential study include eicosanoids and oxidative stress, adrenergic, autonomic and renin-angiotensin pharmacology, arrhythmia and pharmacogenetics.

Minimum Length of Training: 12 months
