22nd Annual Meeting Abbott Lecturer

Valentin Fuster, M.D., Ph.D.

The 2000 Abbott Lecturer at the 22nd Annual Meeting of SCA in Orlando, FL, is Valentin Fuster, M.D., Ph.D. one of the world's leading cardiologists. Dr. Fuster is currently the Arthur M. & Hilda A. Master Professor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Previously, he was the Mallinckrodt Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases at the Mayo Medical School. Over the course of his professional career, Dr. Fuster has received numerous awards and honors including the 1993 Distinguished Scientist Award of the American College of Cardiology, the Heart of Gold Award of the American Heart Association, and the Distinguished Service Award of the American College of Cardiology. He recently completed his term as the 1998-1999 President of the American Heart Association.

His principal scientific interests have been consistently focused on the role of thrombosis in acute coronary syndromes. In a brilliant scientific career, he has published more than 360 refereed articles and more than 430 invited articles. He is the editor of several textbooks of cardiology. In addition to being an accomplished scientist and spectacular clinician, Dr. Fuster is also an outstanding lecturer and a delightful individual. SCA is truly privileged to have Dr. Fuster as its 2000 Abbott Lecturer. There is no doubt that anyone who will have the good fortune to attend his lecture will be impressed by the clarity of his thoughts and the power of his arguments.
